There has been this craze about working on several platforms where you can earn online if you provide your expertise or services. I have already talked about such websites which works as an intermediary by bringing up clients and freelancer in one place where they can collaborate together to get things done. In return the intermediary websites has their own commissions generated per transaction made by the Buyers and Sellers. Buyers are the clients that purchases services of Freelancers. And sellers (freelancers) are those who are willing to sell their services to these buyers (clients). So it’s a win-win strategy from all sides. Such platforms are also referred as CLOUDSOURCING – providing a virtual network for outsourcing your work. Many companies are not willing to hire full time professionals so crowdsourcing is just another way of outsourcing individuals from around the world for different small and big project.
People per hour is one such crowdsourcing platform that has its own unique style of creating a collaboration between the clients and freelancers. It was founded in 2005 by Simos Kitiris and Xenios Thrasyuoulou. The company has its offices in New York and London.
To cut it short! People per hour is one such place where you can work as a Freelancer (Self-employed) and earn a proper living if you are really good at what you do coupled with the usage of some marketing strategies. I am writing a complete detail about whatever I have been doing in this website as a freelancer and I would share all my successful personal experiences with this platform. Hope that works for you as well. So let begin with the first step of working in this platform.
Table of content
The registration Process
Go to PEOPLE PER HOUR which would look somewhat like this:
I personally like the layout of this website. If you are already registered just login and get set go. If not click over the Login button and then sign up first.
When you are done writing the details. I would rather suggest you to select the BOTH option for the account type. You never know that either you can also work in this website or hire someone else for your work or do both ! And when you are done . This is what you will see at the first step
This is called the dashboard of people per hour. You can see it has all your activities at the very front page. So every time when you login to people per hour this is what you will see. Your Message, payments, posted jobs, hourlies bought and off course the part which bring more attention is the title called MY PENDING ACTION – this alarming title enable you to look at your left over or new work that requires your attention. Oh! Have a look at the importance of your email address. That’s the first thing they want to verify. There is one more important reason I would logically discuss about the importance of reading your email regularly and particularly your junk or spam mails – to check if there isn’t any email form the people per hour support.
The Profile part
One of the most important advice I would ever really give with regard to freelancing is to make an outclass profile. This is a noticeable factor that enables the client to award you a job. So your profile would somewhat look like this in the beginning.
Click over the Edit button that you can see at the right corner of the cover photo. At the back end it would look something like this –
In this upper portion of your profile – be specific about your Title which must be in accordance to your expertise, Start with what you know more than anything else. Also, don’t be too general about it. Being more specific about what you know enables your clients to search you more easily. For example Instead of writing content writing, Write Web content writing or Travel writing, Academic writing another one could be web development – try writing Word Press web development, Word web designing, Word Press customization, Word Press themes etc. Hence, particular expertise must be written instead of a general field.
How must your Picture be ?
Your picture must be clear and visible – Not body wants to see only hands or feels or any other landscapes. A picture must show your face completely so who ever sees your face must believe it is neither Photoshop nor a copied Google image. Many clients asks for a Skype chat so be honest about your persona.
Many people clearly declare that they don’t want to sell their services at a lower cost. But that depends on your level of expertise . if you are someone who is already known to the general public and receiving or getting high price job is no big deal for you – Feel free to start with a higher price. But if you are a beginner or at an intermediate level than you need to create your circle before you can rule it. Which is why I could suggest to start with a lower price in the beginning until you reach to the next CERT level (I will be discussing more about the CERT.
This Section is a MUST CONCENTRATE section. The about you part is the main part of your Profile which will be placed at the left sidebar of your profile. You have to explain you qualification, interest and how good you are at it. If you have any past experiences with respect to the same skill you have mentioned in the profile , describe it properly. At the end , make sure you add some positive and enthusiastic words about being commitment towards whatever you do as a freelancer.
Your Professional Skills
This is a requirement that must be filled with a specific technique. You need to narrow down your skill to be sure that the client finds you in their search for freelancers. This is also an important point when you are making hourlies. You can check the rest of the guidelines about People per hour where I have written about the importance of making good hourlies. So continuing with your Pro Skills – say for example if you are good at Word press You need to narrow it down to tell which part of word press are you expert at. If you are good in everything Writing Word press is fine. Otherwise you can write your skills as Word press Themes, Word press customization, Word press divi , Word press woo commerce and so on.
Another additional feature of adding your particular skills is the notification you receive for new jobs. You will receive emails and of new job that are related to the skill you have mentioned. So be sure to add what you know best.
Introducing yourself with Video
Although I don’t find this very important but it would be a an additional factor for clients to see you talking about how well you can provide your services. I think it’s a very good initiative from the People per hour team. That bring more credibility to the freelancer’s profile. Do use this option If you are good at communicating and expressing yourself in Video.
You will find the submit button at the end when you are done with your profile. Note that it will take 24 hours for the team to accept your profile. If they find anything missing or unacceptable they will contact you again which would then take you another 24 hours after re-submission. Be sure not to add any links or promotions. The platform does not accepts any marketing strategies concerning any product, blog or links. This is also not allowed in your Video. You cant mention anything that relates to the promotion of any other website or product.
Before the acceptance of your profile , you are not allowed to send any proposal for an job at all. You will receive an error of SELLER APPLICATION NOT APPROVED which means you have to wait for the acceptance. This also leads me to the conclusion that people per hour greatly emphasizes on proper profile submission. So I would suggest everyone to spend a proper time over writing and filling up the mandatory options.
This is probably enough for the first step of getting in the world of Freelancing. Leave your email address to receive more free guidelines about working as a freelancer.
